A Brief Note About Comments
After some discussion it appears that the Kelgarries Blogswarm won't be able to support comments at this time due to sheer volume of material we need to work with to achieve our goals. Once we migrate to our own servers (scheduled for early 2009) we'll be able to support a full comments implementation.
Thanks for your interest, and enjoy the blog!

How To Subscribe To Infinities As An RSS Feed In Internet Explorer 7
It has come to our attention that many readers of Infinities would like to have the ability to know when new posts are available automatically. Fortunately, the internet and IE7 provide this feature very nicely.
Rather than duplicate postings and eat up space here at Blogspot, we have posted a very simple but quite effective Tutorial on the matter at our sister blog, Tutorials On Using Voltaic Difference Engines. Enjoy!

The Net is Vast And Infinite
My oldest son hooked me on Japanese Anime when I was in my late 30's. Fortunately I had a good paying job and a tolerant spouse, since I survived the addiction both financially and socially, many don't. Eventually I moved on, but one set of manga/anime stuck with me even after the others had faded into otaku fluff. This work is called Ghost In The Shell, by Masamune Shirow. It has now become a global media property of great interest in many countries; it is shown on many television networks around the world, dubbing into local languages. The manga are continually in print and have also been widely translated. There have even been major feature films developed for the millieu.
Why does all of this matter? Because with the exception of the peculiar Tekwar television series by William Shatner (from his ghost-written books with Ron Goulart), Ghost In The Shell is the only pop culture setting about such things that gets the Internet, cybernetics, AI, hacking, information warfare, consciousness as a quantum phenomenon, and a host of other things right. You don't have to wince when you watch or read it even if you do this stuff for a living. And that is incredibly hard to pull off. This blog is a more modest attempt at the same thing. The Internet and the Personal Information Device (no longer just the PC, thank you!) are driving us toward a convergence of data and being which is rapidly approaching a Singularity beyond which our very minds may have to evolve to continue. Follow our RSS feed for full details on when to reserve your own Shell. (Images courtesy of Wikipedia.)
